Veronika was a beautiful, rich but very stingy countess. Three brothers lived in Kamnik at the same time and all three of them were priests. Because they always wanted to hold mass at the same time, the towns people decided to build a church with three chapels, but they ran out of money. They asked Veronika for some gold to finish the building but Veronika got very angry, saying she would rather turn into a snake than donate money for the chapels.

As soon as she uttered these words though, she changed into a monster, half women and half snake, who still guards is treasure today in the underground cellar of the Little Castle (Mali Grad) waiting for the saviour.
